3 Tips for Keeping Your Dog Safe & Healthy During Hot Weather

Keep Your Dog Hydrated & Cool

This means making sure they have plenty of fresh water. Continue filling their bowl with fresh water. If your dog’s bowl is made of metal, it’s going to get hot fast and it also will make the dog’s water hot.  Ensure your dog has access to plenty of shade and fresh water

You also want to ensure they have a pace to lay in the shade. Take your dog’s health, age, breed, and the color of their fur into consideration. Make sure that you’re checking on them regularly throughout the day so they don’t get overheated.

Feel the Pavement Before a Walk

If you wouldn’t walk on the pavement without shoes on, it’s way too hot for your poor dog’s paws. It’s best to walk during the early morning and the late evening. This will help you avoid the peak times when the ground is very hot. It’s best to walk on the grass if possible. If you’re out on a walk and your pooch starts limping, skipping, or lifting up their paws, the pavement is too hot, and you want to go home.

Limit Their Outdoor Activities

The summertime’s not the time to spend hours outside. You want to limit their exercise intensity and time. A dog will often have a hard time understanding when they’ve played too long. So you want to make sure that you’re smart. There are plenty of things that you can do inside so that you’re not spending a lot of time in the heat.
