December is full of fun holidays for family and friends. Christmas is one of them. Today, we’re going to talk about your pets and another big holiday in December – Hannukah. Just like Christmas, Hanukkah is full of food, friends, family, and many temptations for our pets.
Let’s look at some of the dangers associated with Hannukah for pets.
Menorahs
Although you may want to include pets in a lot of your family traditions, this particular tradition is one that pets shouldn’t be involved with. You should keep your pet in another room while your Menorah is lit. We don’t want your pooch’s tail to knock it over or your cat’s whiskers to be singed.
Dreidels
A dreidel can be dangerous to your pet if they eat it or chew it. A dreidel can block your pet’s intestines if it’s swallowed. Even a piece breaking off when being chewed can irritate your pet’s oesophagus or cause them to choke.
Gelt
This tasty Hanukkah treat should be kept away from your pets. The combination of chocolate and gold wrapping can cause a lot of problems for your dog or cat. So, keep them away from your pets.
Latke
These delicious potato pancakes are high in fat and cause lead to pancreatitis if your pets get into them. They are also made using onions, which are bad for both cats and dogs. Even a small amount could lead to problems.
Enjoy Hannukah with your family, and make sure that you are keeping your pets safe. Otherwise, you may find that your celebration has been interrupted by a visit to the emergency vet.
